From Inside Reddit to Inside HubSpot: What It Actually Takes to Win on Reddit
Evan Hamilton spent five years inside Reddit, looking after the volunteer moderators who run its communities. Then he crossed to the brand side and had to make Reddit work for HubSpot.
Even with all that insider knowledge, plenty of it didn't work first time.
Most brands are now being told Reddit is the key to showing up in AI search. Cue a wave of agencies promising to "game" it with volume. Evan has seen exactly how that ends. He's built HubSpot's presence the other way: replying before posting, earning trust with moderators, finding the customers who'll talk about you better than you ever could, and treating it all as an experiment rather than a playbook.
Join Evan Hamilton, Director of Community at HubSpot and former community lead at Reddit, in conversation with Rob Fawkes from Standing on Giants. They'll talk about what winning on Reddit really looks like for a B2B brand, and what any company can take from it.
What we'll cover:
- What Evan learned about moderators and subreddit culture from inside Reddit, and what most brands still get wrong
- How HubSpot proved Reddit works for B2B, including the tactics that flopped along the way
- Brand accounts, personal accounts, and finding the customers and employees who will speak for you
- Reddit, LLMs and AI search: where the real opportunity is, and why the shortcuts backfire
- Live Q&A with Evan
Who this is for: Brand, marketing and product leaders, B2B included, who know Reddit matters for visibility but want to get it right rather than get banned.
About the Speakers
Evan Hamilton was most recently Director of Community at HubSpot, where he built community experiences that drive customer engagement and retention. Before HubSpot, he spent five years leading community at Reddit, setting the strategy that supported tens of thousands of volunteer moderators running hundreds of thousands of communities. He's been bringing people together professionally for over 20 years, with stints at Nextdoor, CMX, UserVoice and more. Outside work he makes music, and he co-founded International Beer Day, which grew from an idea between friends into events around the world.
Rob Fawkes heads up Client Partnerships at Standing on Giants. Standing on Giants helps brands tap into the human-powered internet on Reddit, Discord, forums and social. It's 100% employee-owned and B Corp-certified, and for fifteen years it has worked with brands like Airbnb, Lenovo and Sonos. Rob leads the charge on Reddit, a platform he's genuinely a bit obsessed with. He's a firm believer that the best way onto Reddit is the slow way: building actual relationships with moderators and communities rather than parachuting in with a brand voice nobody asked for.
